When it comes to compact SUVs with off-road capabilities, the options are incredibly limited. The modern compact SUV is focused on running to the mall, not running the trails. However, the 2025 Jeep Wrangler and 2025 Ford Bronco are two rare specimens, providing off-road capabilities from the start – but which one is the better option?

Both vehicles feature several engine upgrade options on top of solid base engines. But most folks will opt for the base models, where the 2025 Jeep Wrangler goes with a tried-and-true 3.6-liter V6 engine, while the Bronco goes with a turbocharged four-cylinder. While the Bronco does turn out more power, offering 300 horsepower versus 285 horsepower in the Wrangler, the Wrangler gets better acceleration off the line and better overall towing, topping out at 5,000 pounds while the Bronco tops out at 4,500 pounds. The Wrangler also offers the hybrid 4xe option, something the Bronco can’t match – some of the best off-road fuel economy in the class!

Most importantly, the four-wheel Jeep Wrangler isn’t just a proven off roader with greater capabilities than the Bronco, it’s perhaps the most capable off-road SUV that can be bought straight from the showroom floor, with features including available Rock-Trac heavy-duty full-time four-wheel drive. In addition to standard part-time four-wheel drive, skid plates, tow hooks and the best ground clearance in the class standard, the Wrangler can also be equipped with steel bumpers, 33-inch off road ties and more.

From the outside, both the 2025 Ford Bronco and 2025 Jeep Wrangler are unmistakable, with unique looks that stand out from their compact SUV brethren. The new Wrangler continues the story of the 7- slot grille that has been its trademark for years, along with the boxy shape and removable top, as well as available oversized tires. 

Each vehicle comes with the option for a short-body 2-door model and a longer 4-door option. Comparing apples to apples, the 2025 Jeep Wrangler provides more shoulder and hip room than the Bronco, making for a more polite and comfortable ride for second row passengers. There’s also more headroom in the second row of the Wrangler – and not just in fractions of an inch either, as it has 41.7 inches of headroom for rear seat passengers versus 39.8 inches in the Bronco.

Both vehicles also offer a sense of comfort when you want to head off road. The Wrangler’s cabin is easy to clean, so that dirt and debris that passengers carry into the cabin doesn’t stick around. The dash is focused on the tactile, with buttons and knobs for easy adjustment versus the increasing popularity of touch-screen input.

On the front dash, the 2025 Jeep Wrangler sports a 12.3-inch touchscreen with easy-navigation software, while the 12-inch touchscreen in the Bronco is a little less intuitive. Both systems offer wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration for connecting smartphones. While each vehicle has a barebones audio system to start, the Bronco can be upgraded to a 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. The Wrangler takes it a step further, with a 12-speaker Alpine audio system providing clearer sound.

Each vehicle offers modern safety features, including a rear back-up camera and a thorough selection of airbags. The Wrangler also provides electronic roll mitigation standard, with optional adaptive cruise control, blind-spot detection and more.

The Wrangler also has an ace up its sleeve – J.D. Power notes that the Wrangler has scored better reliability ratings than the Bronco, meaning owners should be able to count on the Jeep to perform better, for longer

The Wrangler does all of this while providing a better value proposition as well – the base Bronco starts out at an MSRP of nearly $40,000, while the Wrangler starts at under $33,000, a fraction of the price. By offering better performance and technology at a lower price point, it’s clear that the 2025 Jeep Wrangler continues to be one of the top off-roaders straight from the factory that you can buy!
